Well to be honest we did that for about 3 years and it was pretty sucessful but it was not 99.9% acurate (which in a real world corporation is whats needed). So we went with a pure hardware solution (not that there is another way if you really wanna look at it :) ) from Baracuda (http://www.barracudanetworks.com/ns/?L=en) we now have the desired 99.9% effectiveness. Now mind you all that the barracuda machine is is Spamassassing+RBL+ClamAV+Linux but it has made them in one pretty package that is 50 times esier to train and deploy than a single machine that has had the abovementioned tool setup by hand.
