Maybe I'm a radical here but I think that any kind of change should go through the application. No backdoor should be allowed… Why, in the first place, is there the need to do that?I imagine the case of a relational database that has jobs that run every night (just an example) or an older tool still in use, that has access to the database. You may wish for, but can never assume that yours will be the only application using the database.
